Ribbon by R Saito No 272 Straight Razor (Vintage Pre-Owned)
Used in excellent condition (see photos)
The R. Saito “272 Ribbon Extra” straight razor was produced in Japan during the mid-20th century, part of a series of razors made for Ryuichi Saito, a well-known Japanese barber and instructor. The tang is stamped “Produced by R. Saito” with the model number 272 and the “Ribbon Extra” marking on the blade face. The opposite side features a small Japanese character and the Ribbon trademark with a bow emblem, consistent with branding used on Saito’s contract-made razors from workshops such as Hayashi or Tanifuji. These razors were recognized for their precise hollow grinding and fine Japanese steel typical of that period. This example retains its ivory-colored synthetic scales, characteristic of Japanese production in the 1950s–60s.
Includes a period Ribbon Co. (Tokyo) box marked “T.R.S Tokyo” and “Rosette Razor – Production by Ribbon Co.” This appears to be correct maker/era packaging from the Ribbon Co family; however, because the razor itself is marked “Ribbon Extra 272,” the box is not confirmed original to this specific model. Please review photos for the exact markings on both box and razor.
- Shave Ready
- Faux Ivory Scale
- Size 13/16
- Square Point
- Half Hollow Grind
